Masik Shivratri is the sacred day dedicated to Lord Shiva. The day holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. Masik Shivratri is holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. The day is observed every month on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi. Lord Shiva is worshipped on this auspicious day and devotees appease him by following various puja rituals and following spiritual activities. Rituals to Follow on Masik Shivratri:
1. Observe fast
Devotees observe a fast from dawn to dusk. Some devotees observe fast by having fruits and some devotees observe fast by having one time meal. They can eat normal sattvik food and they should avoid tamasik food.
2. Perform Abhishekam
Devotees are advised to visit Shiva temple and perform abhishekam to Shivalingam by offering five sacred items such as milk, curd, honey, sugar powder and ghee.
3. Chant Mantra
Mantra chanting is one of the most powerful ways to appease Lord Shiva and they should chant “Om Namah Shivaye” and “Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra” to seek spiritual blessings.
